Resident since 2019, transferred units twice, overall experience has been lovely with expected apartment living hiccups. Current apartment is the absolute best. ☺️

Pros: community is well maintained (hallways and stairwells could use more attention) gorgeous area with lovely parks all around, diverse neighborhood, 5 star maintenance team, awesome public transportation system (bus, NOT Bart which is health hazard level disgusting), great housing team, front office is responsive via email - calling and/or in person might be a struggle as they work remotely, variety of unit types available - amenities like hard flooring, washer/dryer and super large oval tub are favorites, onsite gym is small but equipment is more than adequate and its free for residents 24/7

Cons: noise factor/insulation is pretty terrible - if above neighbors are loud and/or inconsiderate of quiet hours your experience might be unpleasant, some pet owners are irresponsible - dog poo not picked up, leaving pets on balcony to bark for long periods (which is sad for the poor dogs), security team not very helpful - there are unknown company trucks here every single weekday 4-5 am loudly rummaging through recycle bins of every bldg. (not authorized by Essex) by the time security arrives trucks are gone, noise is disturbing and echoes through the lot. Rents are a bit high, even for San Ramon.

Tips: 1. units with balconies facing the pool or playground area come with increased noise, pay attention to the map when choosing a unit if this might be an issue. 2. Majority of units are not updated yet and the older appliances often malfunction bc well, they're old. (it is extremely hard to get appliances replaced, each will break down 3-4 times with quick but temporary fixes before this finally occurs) If you prefer an updated feel look for key words like - stainless steel, hard flooring, renovated. Understand the rent increases with every new amenity. (comparison photos included)

There are certain problems that occur with apartment living but the management team seems willing to work with residents to resolve what they can at Mill Creek. Move-Out charges are reasonable if your apt is left in decent condition. Yes, there will be a cleaning fee of $190 no matter what so keep that in mind.

Overall, have been fairly happy here and shared a few photos that might be helpful. Definitely recommend and thankful to be part of this community. ?

My family and I have lived at Mill Creek going on 3 years now and have no complaints whatsoever. Whenever there was any issue with an appliance the maintenance staff have always been quick to respond. Gabriel in particular has always been exceptional. Anytime there is an issue or even in passing Gabriel is always friendly and accommodating. Mill Creek is lucky to have a great human being on their staff like Gabriel.

Everything you’ve read negative about this place and staff is accurate. It is by far the worst living experience I’ve ever had. It is correct they will ignore you if they feel like you’re bothering them. They do not answer the phone, sometimes answer the text but not usually timely. And they apparently don’t work onsite any more(again). They do whatever they can to avoid the tenants. They don’t even read half of what you send, you can tell by how they respond. Definitely the type of people who listen to respond but not comprehend. You’ll see on other forums where people have stated living here has impacted their mental health and that is a VERY REAL THING.

I had made several complaints and eventually asked that it be escalated to the community manager and asked for a meeting. Which we had. The community manager Raquel stated she would be calling me at 2 different points to follow up on my complaint. She has not called, I have asked for her to call 3 times and have been ignored. This happened before Labor Day weekend, I’ve asked at least once a month since then. My issues had not been resolved and in fact have been progressively worse. When you reach out to the office they will gaslight you and try to make it seem like you’re being unreasonable. If someone is constantly violating the lease agreement I have every right to complain as many times as it takes until it’s rectified. Especially if it impacts my every day life and I’ve explained how and why we are feeling harassed. If you don’t want the complaints then appropriately address the issues the first time.

Now on to the other reasons why you shouldn’t rent here.

Roaches…

Now the apartments are terribly built. Per someone on staff there is only about 6 inches separating each floor of the building. You can hear everything from your neighbors flipping light switches, every door and drawer they open and close, especially if they like to slam them. You can hear full blown conversations and they don’t even have to be intentionally talking too loud. There is NO PRIVACY here and I mean NONE, ZERO!!! Your neighbors are basically your roommates, honestly. If you’re on the first floor you can even hear noise from units not directly above you. I’ve heard kids in other units running, it was actually management that brought it to my attention more than a year ago that you can hear more than who is just connected to you. The complex knows that and over the years has done nothing to try and ease the issue i.e adding sound proofing between units as they turn them over. Changing the cabinets to soft close, just anything to help mitigate the issue. They won’t do it, they just want to tell you that you’re unreasonable and “you will hear noise from your neighbors”. Like yes I’m going to hear them flush their toilet, hear their shower, the blender the vacuum, the tv sometimes. But I don't need to hear every waking second of what my neighbors are doing. If you have inconsiderate neighbors that makes it very tough.

The subfloors, probably the biggest and most issue they squeak excessively!!!! Many units apparently have this problem. The flooring people stated with excess weight on the floor it makes it worse. Therefore running, jumping slamming things on the ground intensifies the flooring issue. Which is why the office shouldn’t take the noise complaints lightly. There is too much noise you cannot control, the noise you can you should especially if it violates the lease.

0/10 recommendation. Essex properties owns multiples properties. Do not assume you’ll have a better experience at one of their other properties.

The ridiculous and unprofessional staff, who I'm sure are related to each other in some way, are seen using the gym, they never answer the phone and stay indoors in the leasing office with all of the windows covered and doors locked. It is extremely difficult to get a hold of anyone despite calling multiple times and it's impossible to speak to anyone who is actually qualified face-to-face. They are unprofessional, lacking basic manners, and don't know what they are doing based off of my experience when I have been able to get a hold of someone after MANY attempts. There is also a policy to keep dogs on leashes but some of the tenants DO NOT put their dogs on leashes and have run after elderly and children. They need to take this seriously before someone gets hurt and sued. They need to be stricter about this and charge people who don't follow the policy. Not to mention some of the trash tenants that they are starting to let in the place - they need to be wary of who they are letting into these apartments.

AJ IS AWESOME!!!
I have been a resident at Mill Creek for 4 years. I wanted to write a review to recognize one of the managerial staff, AJ.
I recently had an auto pay problem, and AJ handled the matter efficiently while also being sensitive to the nature of the questions regarding payment amount, etc. then…whoosh! Problem solved!!!
Additionally, she resolved a second matter regarding new insurance requirements and provided the information I needed to get that processed.
All this done with a smile through the phone. She is always pleasant and helpful. A real asset to the complex.
