Definitively the worst city building department I have encountered. We had a final inspection scheduled to which the inspector went to the wrong area and did not bother to call the on site contact, so he left and we had to wait 8-12 for nothing. Had to reschedule the inspection, so the day of we check and the inspector is Dewayne, but later receive an email saying the inspector is Patricia. I called the department and Angelita answered. Never have I encountered such a rude city employee. I call to ask for the inspector's contact number, but she states she will call her herself. I let her know to please call me back at my phone (company line). When she does I answer and she goes off on me stating she was waiting too long (45sec to be exact) to get a hold of me and in that case I should give her my personal phone number. She kept cutting me off, but eventually gave me the answer I needed and just hung up. City of Richmond building department inspections need to have better training and should list a proper phone directory for inspectors.

piss poor response to reports of blight, quality of neighborhood, and unlawful storage of trash bins, etc. etc. etc. not worth a dime!

I have been trying to schedule a final inspection for over a week. I've tried online, where its blank and I literally can not schedule online. I've tried scheduling over the phone inspection line, and it freezes when it asks for your permit number. My only hope is calling and hoping they answers for once. Unfortunately, City of Richmond Building Department never answers their phone, and when they do they are quick to dismiss you and refer you away to the aforementioned manners of scheduling inspections. That being said, when they finally realize they actually have to help you they can get it done within minutes. I wish this city handled everything better. Even OAKLAND has better service than this city.

I think the building inspectors are pretty knowledgeable regarding construction codes to keep people safe. Also, Amazing the automatic service to schedule the inspections, and I love receiving an email of confirmation.
I am giving 4 stars because there is always a point to improve. And, I think they can improve in providing bilingual inspectors in Spanish, due to the high number of property owners and contractors who speaks Spanish.

The worst building regulations dept. ever lazy people just giving you the run around, like most government ran organizations. 1 simple question that is answered by other building departments fairly quickly. Transferred twice to a not to be found employee. I just want to know when the building inspector will be at the property. They open at 8:30 even though the appointment is for 8am-12pm. 8:45 still nobody is answering the phone.

I've found nothing but helpful people at this building and planning department. With all of the planners, plan checkers and engineers in one place, it is really easy to get from department to department. Expedited review was exactly what they said it was (got my comments even faster than they said!).

This lady who soposed to be listening or assisting customers from the city won’t listen to anything you calling for she’ll ask what yu need without letting yu explain the issue what you are calling for and hang up the phone on yu and don’t answer any more! Welp yes that also after making yu upset and prolly call her a name for been so disrespectful.. she 100% deserves it..
