My husband and I were spinning in circles trying to find good therapists who could help our son with his struggles. We had worked unsuccessfully with 3 therapists before realizing that we were at a loss of how to help him and were concerned that our teen was on the verge of hitting rock bottom. The SJ Group, specifically Scott Canter, was recommended by another parent who worked successfully with The SJ Group. Scott spent a lot of time with my husband and me, getting to know us and understanding our family as well as our concerns. He also spent a few hours with our son to learn about him as well as his perspective on his struggles. Within several days we had a report from Scott along with four recommendations for therapeutic programs for our son. He recommended two outdoor behavioral programs, one local RTC program, and an at-home mentoring program. He left the decision entirely up to my husband and me. There was no pressure. He simply wanted my husband and I to choose what we felt was best for our kid. We ended up choosing one of the outdoor programs and were thoroughly impressed with Scott's ability to choose the right therapist for our son. Our son's life turned around. He's like his old self but with more awareness and maturity. Choosing therapeutic programs is exceptionally difficult because most parents don't have knowledge of the thousands of therapists who would work best with their teen. Scott Canter does know. His deep knowledge of different therapeutic options as well as his knowledge of teens (Scott worked numerous years in outdoor behavioral therapy) was invaluable. Additionally, Scott stayed in touch with us through our son's 3-month journey. He also recommend great next steps for our son after leaving the outdoor program. My husband and I couldn't have done better. We're grateful to Scott and The SJ Group for setting up our teen on a healthy path.
